English Language and Literature Tutoring
Learning or developing English can seem daunting. Whether you're studying for GCSEs or A Levels, preparing for Oxbridge or university applications, or simply wanting to express yourself more confidently, my aim is not only to help you make progress, but to enjoy the process too.
I can help you with:
- GCSE English Language and Literature
- A Level English Language and Literature
- International Qualifications (IB, AP, iGCSE and more)
- Oxbridge & University Applications
- Essay Writing and Critical Thinking
- Adult Learners
- Professional Writing and Business Communication
My Approach
I don't believe the best learning happens through memorising model answers. It happens through curiosity, discussion and discovering that your own ideas matter.
Whether we're unpicking a Shakespeare soliloquy, exploring a novel, improving an essay or building confidence with written English, I want lessons to feel like conversations rather than lectures. The most rewarding moments are often when a student suddenly says, "I've never thought about it like that before."
Every student arrives with different strengths, different challenges and different goals. That's why every lesson is tailored to the individual. Some students need help organising their ideas, others need confidence in expressing them, while some simply want someone who shares their enthusiasm for literature and language.
I also learn a lot from every student I teach. The best discussions are never one-sided, and I love seeing familiar texts through somebody else's perspective.
One of my favourite parts of tutoring is discussing why a writer chose one particular word, image or piece of punctuation. Those conversations often become the moment when students stop looking for the "right answer" and start trusting their own ideas.

Experience and qualifications
I graduated from King's College, Cambridge with a 2:1 in English Literature before beginning my tutoring career with Kensington & Chelsea Tutors, where I taught students preparing for GCSEs, A Levels and university entrance.
Alongside tutoring, I've spent many years working as a professional writer, proofreader and editor, writing for BBC Radio 4 and helping authors, businesses and international organisations communicate with clarity and confidence. Those experiences shape every lesson I teach today.
I hold a Basic DBS Certificate (issued 21 May 2026) and have experience supporting students studying UK and international qualifications.
